Walking the Path to Fitness & Health

Health is all we have. Money may make life a blast, but health, spiritual, physical and mental cannot be bought with money so my focus is on keeping myself healthty and active so I wont be a burden to others because of my lifestyle, food and activity choices.

I'm Still Here and Standing

I'm really just checking in so folks know I'm still living and breathing.  I've just been too busy and running on a tight schedule to take time to blog.  However, I'm still exercising (EASA 2.0), still tracking my weight and doing th Fit Plus body control test, just too busy to put togeather any kind of thoughtful words.

Weekend of the 12th of February …

Finds me first thing in the morning do my floors.  Snow is melting and they don’t expect any more for at least a week.  Average temperatures are predicted to be around a high of 45-50 (Praise the Lord), we are going to be having a heat wave.  My snowman is slowing melting and transforming into something else.

At the advice of my endocrinologist, I’ve added a second exercise session in the evening, about 15 minutes of Just Dance 2 (which I had decided to do earlier; however, I did it one for one week and always declared I was too tired when I got home from work), and a 13.5 minute is an EASA 2.0 pre-set stretching exercises.  In reality the Limber-up exercises are just a combining of their warm-ups and cool downs.  The goal is to knock down my blood pressure.  I’m currently on two blood pressure meds, one being a standard prophylactic one now given to most all Type IIs because it protects the kidney’s from damage, a fairly common and universal damaging side effect of diabetes, and a med that slows my heart rate down which has always been fast even before I was diagnosed with high blood pressure.

Been A While …

Since I’ve checked in.  I’ve been very, very busy at work sometimes doing a 14/15 hour stent to meet an important deadline, no overtime ‘cause I’m an exempt employee.  Still worked out and still tool the Wii Fit Plus Body Control Test.   Also has my appointment with my endocrinologist this past Monday and my Type II is well under control; however, that tight control may be coming at the expense of my blood pressure cause I’m more than likely going very low.  In fact I know that I’m going low, under 60 because Sunday I picked up a low reading.

My A1c was 5.7 which is equivalent to an average blood glucose reading of 111, averages means there are highs and lows and I know during the time the A1c covered (3 months), I had a week of readings (had the flu) that was well over 140, in fact one reading went to 198.

Soap Box Day ...

I'm grieved from seeing too many people only concentrating on their weight loss so I wrote this in another arena:

When you're not fit because of long term inactivity, when you are larger then you should be, or your normal weight is composed of a greater amount of fat than muscle, we tend to overdo the exercise bit.  Folks, remember we didn't get unfit, overweight, and out-of-shape overnight, it was a long-term process, and the reversal will be the same.   I know about the "going" at it mentality until your body breaks down.  But in truth, our bodies foundation, the inner workings, have to be strong enough to deal with the outside changes that is a law in nature as well as in our construction and the products that are built.  If the inner workings are weak, they will be unable to support the outer structure.  Think about that.  Feb of 2006 I began my health endeavor, I could only fast walk 15 minutes and thought I would die; it took 1.5 to 2 hrs to recover.  Saturday's I do a 2.5 to 3 hr exercise session and can recover in 10 minutes.  Slow & steady, slow and steady.

Working from Home Today …

Yesterday I packed up everything I thought I needed and lugged it home walking on sidewalks covered with a frozen mist.  We now have frozen ran; however, the temps are suppose to rise above freezing around about now.  But I’ve been going at it (working) since 5:00am and I also worked until 12 midnight with the belief I would be snowed in.  Oh well.  I’m not stopping now until I finish the project I’m working on now.  I’ll then do my EASA workouts, get breakfast then continue on.

I’ve Burned Over …

17,000 calories from November 19th through January 31st according to my EASA 2.0 states, which includes the six days I did not exercise because of coughing spells when I had the flu/bad respiratory infections/sinus infections, etc.  Although I feel stronger and I have more muscle definition, I’m not sure how that will impact my Blood Work numbers.  Yesterday I went to a Lab and I had nightmares as I walked toward the office and it wasn’t because of getting stuck.

The last time I had been at that particular office over two years ago, it was a nightmare, unorganized, nasty folk (it was only one person manning the office, checking folks in, handling the paperwork, drawing the blood, etc.  I had been going to the building where my endocrinologist has her offices which has a lab on the first floor.  Now, I have had some issues there because one time I went one of the check in people kept trying to hand back the wrong insurance cards to the right person, I watched her like a hawk.  She was one of those folks who argue with you when you said, “I’m sorry but this is not my card,” as if you don’t know who you are.  However, today I was pleasantly surprised.  The office had been redone, there were two people taking information at a window, and three people available to draw blood.  I was in and out within 20 minutes even though there were three people how were before me.

This May Be of Interest …

To a few of you.  I switched up my exercise routine to what could be called, circuit training.  This is on EASA 2.0.   I put together two new sets of Custom Workouts, which I have called, HIRT – Arms; & HIRT – Core.  HIRT is just High Intensity Resistance Training.  What I’m doing is putting together enough of one particular exercise, for example Reverse Crunches, to get to the place of failure, then do about 2/4 minutes of cardio, boxing or step, then go back to another resistance exercise, and do that until failure then another 2/4 minutes of cardio.  Since I’ve tried this my Blood Glucose numbers have been unbelievable.  My Fasting Glucose for the day after I’ve done this falls along 80 to 95.  Since I’m not doing this everyday (two days on, one for arms, the next day core and the third day strictly cardio), I can clearly see the fluctuations in my numbers.  It is not that my numbers on the other days are bad, it is just that the non-resistance day leads to fasting numbers around the 105 to 107 range, which ain’t bad.
