Walking the Path to Fitness & Health

Health is all we have. Money may make life a blast, but health, spiritual, physical and mental cannot be bought with money so my focus is on keeping myself healthty and active so I wont be a burden to others because of my lifestyle, food and activity choices.

A Christmas Eve Gift …

My son and daughter-in-law surprised me yesterday.  They drove up from North Carolina and paid me a surprise visit.  Had fun; however, we tried to find a place to go out to eat last night and found out the City that Never Sleeps, shuts down on Christmas Eve early.  We did find a very good Vietnamese Restaurant in the Northern end of Greenwich Village (13th and University Place, but they gave us 20 minutes to eat, and we did, and took home doggie bags as well.  They are heading further North today, driving up to Boston to visit her family and making a pit stop in Connecticut, some of my son’s father’s family.

I spent mid-morning doing three EASA workouts trying to mitigate the damage from all the food I ate yesterday.  After the meal, I went back to work for about an hour then left work ‘round 4:30.  So today is a lazy crazy day.   I all ready got a fabulous Christmas present, my son is driving up from North Carolina, heading to Boston and we will be doing dinner tonight.  This was totally unexpected so it is a big treat for me.

Office party today with the exchange of gifts through Secret Santa and with food brought in so I won’t have to bring or go get lunch.  Kenny, I’m sharing the guilt after your day at the feasting table.

Back on the Preverbal Horse …

Yesterday I managed doing a 43 minute EASA workout in the morning as well as a 15 minute Wii Fit Plus Session (Balance Games and Obstacle Course) and 15 minutes of JD2.   I should start to see those Fasting Blood Glucose Numbers go down in a few days.   I noticed something very interesting.  Although I only took four days off so my body could recover from whatever I had and because I could not stop coughing, I noticed a loss of muscle definition and control.

‘A couple of weeks ago there was a very continuous argument over on the ADA (American Diabetes Association) message boards regarding low-carb and high fat diets.  The person who brought that to the boards was a newbie and the “ole-timers” almost eviscerated him without considering his arguments or investigating the truths of what is being told me.  The excuses were, “he was arrogant, he used the wrong words …etc.”  It occurred to me that whether I believe something really doesn’t matter, what matters is the truth.  I could be crossing the street and not see that an eighteen wheeler is coming down the road because my vision is obstructed.  My getting flatten by the truck is not dependent on whether I believe the person who is shouting at me, it could be my longest dearest enemy, but is based on the truth of that truck coming toward me.

Blah to Colds …

I think I’ve picked up a new bug ‘cause now there are symptoms that I didn’t have before, sneezing and watery red eyes I’m now adding to my coughing and stuffy nose.  O.K. it’s time for this thing to go.  Besides, all of this is wrecking havoc with the glucose numbers.  I have sure proof what exercising will do to the numbers of a Diabetic, or should I say, lack of exercise.

Still Coughing …

Can’t seem to do anything that will raise my heart rate without sending me into coughing spasms.   My Fasting Blood Glucose levels are also rising but I’m sure they will recend once I can get back to working out again.

Under the weather and the covers …

Either I have a very bad cold or the flue.  Any attempt to get busy with activity with some exercise triggers a mad bout of coughing spasms.  So I’ve been taking it easy.
