The jist of Joey's blogs

This blog will hopefully be updated daily. It will be about my workouts for the day, how I succeeded, how I need to improve and the goals I am working on achieving. There will probably be some other rants (and hopefully raves) in it too. Hopefully I will be able to include some recipes I'll be using or at least healthy eating options I am trying at the time. All comments on my blogs are always welcome.

Sickness sucks

I've been ill the last several days so I haven't been working out.  Also my father went in for heart bypass surgery last week and the family has been very concerned with his condition.  Everything looks like it should turn out well though.  Last week a friend came by and let me borrow P90X from him.  I think I may check it out when I'm feeling better.  I'll keep Wii Fit as my main Yoga exercise though as it probably has alot more options than P90X does.  Anyway that's what is going on in my life.  Hopefully I will be back at it in a couple days.

Rely on my memory of Wii Fit or use Wii Fit full time?

I felt I was really lazy today.  I didn't know what to do but I really wasted most of my day.  There wasn't much I could be doing anyway though, most of the housework was done and everything was about as organized as it is going to get.
Eventually I did get around to working out.  I made three videos today which means I needed to do 90 minutes of workouts.  They were extremely easy videos though which only took about 2/3rds the normal amount of time to complete so in reality it was only like two videos.  Either way excuses or no I did an hour of calistenics (sp?) today.  I really need to do something where I'm not just improvising.  I like to watch TV while I work out because it makes the time go so much faster.  I may have to dig deep and just use the Wii Fits exercises with the trainers help instead of just doing what I remember most.  I suppose some stretching is in order too, my legs were stiff today after yesterday's workout.

On a more positive note my friends and I ate at a new restaurant in town.  My bill ended up being $40, however I did have the most amazing crab cake and literally the most delicious steak I've ever had.  I think they used a peppercorn rub or something because it was spectacular.  It was the high point of my day.

Well I better get to bed, long day tomorrow.  Hope everyone is staying motivated and keeping in good spirits.

The soreness returns

Well did another two videos and another hour of exercise.  It was more stair stepping because I kind of forgot some of the exercises I did.  Also I was on the phone talking to some friends I haven't talked to in awhile.  Did 40 minutes of the freestep and 20 minutes of weights.  My legs were a little sore this morning but my arms were killing me.  They still are.  It has been awhile I know that.  I'm not going to be able to watch more movies and still exercise, I have to put Wii Fit back in and get a solid routine going.  Yoga would do me good.  Either way I did feel motivated today which is nice.

I forgot about the pain

Posted by Space Jockey in Untagged

So keeping with my exercise plans, I made two videos today.  The plan was for every two videos I make, I'm to work out for an hour.  Well at the current rate there is no way I'll be making more than two videos per day he he.

That 4.5 mile walk yesterday was fine and the pain in the arch of my left foot and left shoulder were gone today.  The exercises I did today were 40 minutes of freestep on the Wii Balance Board (no riser in place) and 20 minutes of various curls and weights.  I have to say my legs feel fine but my arms are incredibly painful.  I built up a good rhythm of over 1000 steps every 10 minutes.  On the curls I estimate I did over 500 per arm.  I feel I will definitely be feeling the pain tomorrow.

I suppose the lack of spending time on the computer in the near future will give me a great deal of time to keep up with other endeavors which will probably help me lose even more weight.  Nevertheless I still plan on making two videos per day and working out an hour per day Tuesday - Friday.
BTW here is a link to some of my work if you are interested.  I am quite aware the first 40 or so suck, but I've improved over the last 10 or so using new techniques and such so things are much better now.

Things happen, time to move on

Posted by Space Jockey in Untagged

Space Jockey

I've been absent for awhile, things happening in life that required more immediate attention than exercising.  Now that those things have stabilized I'm ready to get back in gear and shedding the 15 pounds I've gained during these trying times.

I started today off with a 4.5 mile walk with a friend.  It's an easy path on mostly level ground but the cold air and 40 degree temp kept our paces mostly brisk.  Somehow my left shoulder got really sore, so much that I couldn't even carry my 10 pound pack on it.  Also the arch on my left foot was extremely painful today.  I think my friend got the worst of it as he got a large blister underneath his big toe...OUCH.

I also had a plan to take care of some exercising during a somewhat non-exercise oriented time.  I make video reviews of video games on Youtube.  Capturing the footage and editing it takes alot of my time.  I have determined a method to help keep me in shape so I'm not on the computer all the time.  For every two videos I complete (record, edit and post) I will work out for one hour on that day.  So basically I complete two videos and then exercise for an hour before I do any more.  That way I dont get burnout on making too many all at once and get my exercise in as well.

I did make a resolution that is kind of counterproductive to exercise.  I resolved to drink 100 different kinds of beer this year.  Not just try, but a whole pint of each kind.  I realize it goes against some written or unwritten exercise regulation, but I wanted to so I am.  I will do my best to not let it affect how I exercise or cut me off entirely, that is not what I want at all.

I have a new work schedule as well.  I work 16 hours Saturday and Sunday, then 8 hours on Monday.  So basically the only days I will work out is Tuesday - Friday.  That works for me because I wanted to get a minimum of four days a week at least 30 minutes per day in.  It will be good for starting things out.  Also I'm on my feet alot at work so that should help.

As for diet I am doing quite well there.  I always have fresh apples and oranges, as well as canned peaches and pears and yogurt available when needed.  I don't have much fatty stuff around, but I am working on clearing that out.

That should do it for now, feels strange being back but I'm sure that will subside with time.

11/16/10 - Wii Balance Board problems repaired

Posted by Space Jockey in Untagged

Space Jockey

Well I took everything apart yesterday, cleaned up a bit although it wasnt even really dirty at all.  The wires looked good, cleaned up the corrosion on the battery housing, battery contact points and around.  I think that besides the batteries the button we press to turn it on wasn't making contact with the button attached to the power circuits.  Either way it works now so yay.  It's interesting to take things apart and this one was pretty easy.  I even made a Youtube video of it because I found NOTHING on fixing this kind of problem in text or video format ANYWHERE besides "call Nintendo if you need help".  Check it out if you are bored.  It's not very good but I actually enjoyed doing it so yay there.

I suppose I should power it up now so I can weigh myself, see how much I need to work on it.  Thanksgiving is coming up so that will be a chore.  Last year I did really well and ate just one plate of food.  I actually was satisfied after I finished too.  Everyone especially Mom was shocked because on Thanksgiving you're supposed to hork food into your mouth like there is no tomorrow.  Well I didn't but I am pleased with what I did have, hopefully I can do it again this year.  Speaking of Thanksgiving I asked what I could bring and mom said, what do you want to bring?  I thought about it and being alot healthier than I was a year ago I said, I think I'll do a vegetable tray.  Someone usually does and I can really make it awesome I think.  As a surprise I may do a fruit tray for a dessert to really make things a bit more on the healthy side.  Not that I don't appreciate a good piece of pie though.

Well I better be off, the workout isn't going to do itself.

11/15/10 - Wii Fit problems

Posted by Space Jockey in Untagged

Space Jockey

I'll start by saying I haven't used Wii Fit in about 5 months.  Since I joined the site and started losing weight I've been exercising outside during the summer and going on several hikes with work friends.  I've also just came back from hunting season and a few vacations so I like to think I kept up with some exercising.  I know I haven't but hey, what can you do.

Anyways I feel I've been gaining some of the weight back I lost (gained back 7 of the 35 pounds I lost) and was going to get on Wii Fit because quite frankly it's cold outside.  I pop in the disk and go to press the power button on the Balance Board and nothing.  No light or anything.  I figure it must be the batteries so I replace them.  One of them had alot of corrosion, must've gone bad or something since I replaced them only a year ago.  Anyways cleaned it up and replaced them and try playing again.  Still no power, no flash on the balance board light or anything.  I'm looking online for ways to fix it but can't find anything.

I even checked Nintendo's help website AND called them.  Still no help.  I'm at the point where I'm basically going to take apart the balance board completely and try to find the problem that way.  If that doesn't work I'll have to buy a new one.  I figure it's a good thing it's close to Black Friday so I can get a better deal on one now than I could before.

Anyone else had similar problems?  If so how did you fix them?  Thanks in advance.

And as always...Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat
