So I got lazy. I haven't done a lot in about six months. Actually I done nothing, walking down the shop for 5 minutes doesn't count.  So  I dusted of the WII balance board at the  weekend. I bought the wit fit plus game which annoyed me as the programs did not include aerobic exercises. Why I'll never know.

So I'm back on the board hopefully I wont fall off

10k it was meters not miles :)

Well my last blog was about my 5 k run.  So I had been steadily training for a 10k run. 30 mins per night between muscle and cardio alternatley. I was feeling pretty smug about it too.  I was doing fantastic till I fell and did my ankle in. This was on a practice run, I won't say what I slipped on but dog walkers are not my freinds, well the ones that don't clean up after the dogs!!!

The man in the white coat with the stethoscope told me to keep the weight off it for three weeks. I was trying to explain the whole endeavor was to keep the weight off it permanently.  I was feeling pretty sorry for myself and a bit sore. However the lovely Alison said "Its not forever, your not losing your leg  and stop complaining this is your first sports injury and I never thought I'd hear myself  saying that". So that was me told.

Running : the art of putting one foot in front of the other quickly without falling

Here I am on Day 70 of my Wii fit journey . I had set a target to do 5k run after 60 days on the Wii Fit.  I hadn't told anybody that I was setting this goal as I was afraid that I'd jinx it.  It also meant I could chicken out too ! I mean an actual 5k run, out side where theres hills ,  wind and people, not twice round the island lap :)

So I sneaked out of house in my shorts and runners. Not easy with two young inquisitive children. It was a sweltering 18C  outside(This is Dublin remember)   .  I had planned the route I was going to run, along the beach and up the hill, round the cycle path.

levelling out

For the last few weeks I've been slowly and steadily loosing weight till this week.  While I know I am fitter than when I started and I can see my toes again :) I'm wondering have I hit a plateau. I'm eating the same amount as I have been for the last few weeks and doing about 45minutes to an hour each night.  I'm still a long way from being any where near my healthy weight. My BMI is 38 and I need to loose the belly permanently as its a health risk. Theres diabetes in the family and I really don't want that.

On the plus side my wife has started to use the wii fit board a little. Shes not too hot on computers and shes finding it a little daunting when I'm not there.  However the two person jogging is great fun.  I think she likes the fact she can fit her exercise around her life as shes a full time Mammy and Director of Domestic  Operations in our house.

Day 30, already!

When did day 30 happen, today , already. So I said at the start I'd give it 30 days and see what happened. I'm 4 kilos lighter and at least one trouser size smaller. I feel more energised and alert.

I'm on track to hit my second target.  The wii fit has changed the way I view exercise and being active from being something that is a lot of hassle to do to some thing I can enjoy everyday. The wii fit routines here have really helped me in the last few weeks stay focussed and organise my time better.

Is the wii fit island getting bigger!

Posted by sean in Untagged

This morning my calve muscles are in revolt. I did the 45 minute weight loss routine which includes the free run and the island run back to back. Half way through the run I was convinced the island was getting bigger. It wasn't really just had run both back to back and I need to learn to pace myself a little better.  Tonight its muscle exercises.  Still having the routines helps me to push myself a little harder than I would on my own.

Back on the board

Routine is a funny thing. I've gotten into a habit(good i hope) of doing the wii fit  each night for at least 30 mins. So now that my foot has healed I can get back on board. It might be a few days before I can do any on the one legged stuff but I'm determined not  to let that be an excuse.I have been an expert procrastinator in the past.

Last night I did about 30 mins of aerobic, 2 advanced boxing and 1 super hula advanced. I was glad i did it and even raised a little sweat. The second five minutes on the hula was tough but good. I was glad I did it as I was worried that if I lost my discipline I'd end up leaving it in the corner forever.  I'm only 3 kilos(6 pounds in old money)  off hiting my second target on about two weeks or so. I'm pretty confident I'm going to hit that target.
