Days 1 and 2

So here starts what will hopefully be a successful change of lifestyle to bring down my cholesterol, avoid future knee problems, and fit into the clothes I like!  Six months ago, I was 10 pounds lighter than I am now.  That realization was prompted by putting on a shirt that fit when I was at one of my heaviest points in HS and having it feel a little tight.  I realized then I was pushing 220 on a 5'5" frame.  So, the goal is 1lb a week, to get back to around the 160ish mark by this time next year.  More important than the numbers, however, is getting my waist size down from 40" and back to polos not feeling skin tight (anything large enough for my gut is far too big for my shoulders and comes to my knees, so mostly, I'm wearing things tight).

Between work and my evening commitments (Ok, so I play World of Warcraft and raid four of five weeknights, so my free evening time is short), the plan is for two weeknights, 30 minutes each.  Then 1hr each on Saturday and Sunday.  Frankly, I think this is probably my body's limit at this point anyway.  I'm thinking of starting my mornings every day with a 10min boxing session, but we'll see how my arms feel after a week of the scheduled workouts.  I have different types of routines scheduled.  Saturday is heavly on the aerobics for weight-loss while Sunday is very much strength-based, pretty heavy on the legs, with a bit of core work and some arm.  Working on my leg strength has been a sticking point for me for a while; I never really took my PTs advice to heart about my knees and the need to really work on my leg muscles.  (History -- hurt my right knee in HS playing catcher.. favored the leg enough that the muscles around the knee could no longer hold the knee-cap in place.  Slowly, in turn, my ankles lost a fair bit of strength and my hip alignment got thrown out of whack.  Spent some time in PT, but it really just got my knee functional again; nowhere near back to playing strength). Tuesday is ab-targetted while Thursday is another heavy aerobic day.  I may switch Tuesday and Thursday depending on how I feel after Sunday's routine.
