Military PT and Preparation Print this page
Hi everyone,

So I bought Wii Fit Plus for my mother's Christmas gift and she loves it, and recently I've found that I like it a lot myself.

Now regarding routines, I will be enlisting in the Army but I am being delayed about 2 years due to medication. I've decided to use the time I'm being given to prepare for the rigors of Basic Training and was hoping that Wii Fit could help make working out a little more enjoyable (Indiana winters royally suck, especially when it comes to running). Does anyone have any suggestions on what types of exercises/workouts/routines/etc would be most beneficial in my situation? I would really like to perform at the top notch when I finally do get to take my physical fitness evaluations.

Thank you all,
Ian

Cardio Cardio Cardio. The army tests mainly for endurance so that's what you want to focus on. Strength training may also benefit as lots of lean muscle is helpful to achieving that endurance.

All I can say is don't rely 100% on Wii Fit to give you your total workout. Use it as a supplement. Running in place is not going to be the same as running outdoors during your basic training. Same with the strength exercises. Take the ideas and moves from the game, and use them in gym, outside, or with weights. It IS good for things such as teaching you the proper technique for push-ups, and making sure you are balanced while doing them.
Otherwise, play away. Just know that the Wii Fit is designed simply to get people moving who otherwise would not. Not as a training system for sports, the military, marathons, etc.

Please don't take this negatively, this is just coming from someone who has a military family and also has been through military fitness tests.
