Help Needed Print this page
I am a 33 year old woman who recently (last week) had a minor heart attack....the doctor tells me I should be exercising some and slowly building myself up...Even simple everyday chores like cooking dinner make me feel like I have run a Boston Marathon....Prior to the heart attack I had just started using the WiiFit to try and loose weight I am currently sitting at 184.6 lbs with a 31.5 BMI. I do want to work my way up to a point where I can be loosing weight although don't know what kind of work out I should be doing until I am able to get up there again. Today I did a body test and also 6 minutes of Yoga before I could not do anything else....all I did was deep breathing, half moon and warrior (I'm pretty sure it didn't equal 6 minutes but the wii bank said it did so we will go with that). Any help and also support getting through this whole traumatic experience would be appreciated. I have 5 young children 5 - 15 that I am not ready to leave just yet.

Small dietary changes go a long way. Cutting back on fatty foods and doing more cooked at home meals is usually a good choice. Eat until you start getting the first twinges of fullness, then stop. That's your body saying I've had enough. Doing that for a month will drop several pounds easily. Doing it daily and it will become habit before you know it.

As for Wii Fit all you can do is slowly increase your exercises but don't go past your point of tolerance. If you're limited to yoga that's all you can do and it's alot better than nothing. Going for a walk is also pretty easy and a great way to increase you exercise tolerance.

Hope this helps.

Your body has been through a traumatic experience and will take time to recover. If 6 minutes is all that you can handle right now, that's fine. After a week or two, try 7 or 8 minutes. Every couple of weeks increase the amount of time you spend exercising. Do only the amount that you can safely handle. I would also suggest that you keep in close discussion with your Dr. He/she is definitely more qualified than I am. The Dr. might also be able to suggest a heart rate zone to stay in or below. Heart rate monitors are everywhere. I've got an el cheap-o Walmart heart rate monitor watch that uses a push button instead of the constant monitor chest strap. Push the button and I know where I'm at.

Don't get discouraged. To keep you motivated, keep pictures of your family around. The thought of not seeing your kids grow up might be all you need. I know that it works for me.
