The Power of Positive Thought

The title seems a bit cliche, but it is an important message to understand. Having a strong mentality about exercise and dieting will help you reach your weight loss goals.  In your mind you must visualize yourself as you wish to be, and know in your heart that you will attain that goal.  We all have this little voice in the back of our heads that constantly tries to undermine our goals.  It says, "I'm too tired" or "I worked out yesterday, I deserve a break today" that voice is the enemy and you can't let it defeat you.  You are stronger than it.

I personally like to use mantras or repeat phrases in my head when that voice starts getting too loud and telling me that I can't do it.  I say to myself, "Every Step I Take Brings me Closer to a Better Me." or "Every Exercise I Do is Another Calorie Burned" these help me realize that even though it is hard, I am getting there.  I am one step closer to my goal every time I exercise.

The same applies to dieting.  That little voice again tries to break you, "I did 30 minutes on the Wii Fit today, I deserve that chocolate sundae." or "You had that diet soda for lunch, you can definitely have that candy now."  Again it is the enemy, it doesn't want you to succeed, but you are stronger than that little voice, you are in control, and you want to lose weight and reach your goals.  So grab that fruit instead of that candy, or go for a walk when the cravings start to get to you.  Get away from the food. Everyone has their own way of silencing that little voice.

Nothing will ever replace consistency and long term goals.  I didn't gain my extra 20 lbs overnight, it came from months and months of eating poorly.  I didn't expect to lose it overnight either, and it took me 6 weeks to lose 10 lbs of it.  I'm still working towards my goal, but it feels really good when all of a sudden its 2 months down the road and you are really starting to see results. All because you made a plan and you stuck to it.

Keep strong mentally and you can accomplish anything.
